This post identifies baby carrier options that are easy to use and made with safe materials.
I bought several carriers to try out as a way to go on walks and keep my daughter close. I found organic cotton wraps, several of which took some time to put on and didn’t always feel secure. The one that was by far easiest to use, felt most secure, and was Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, was BabyBjorn.
BabyBjorn – I used the Baby Carrier Mini, in cotton, until my daughter was 1, and then I got the Baby Carrier One, which I made heavy use of and loved. She could face both in and out. It can also be used to carry your child on your back, but I never got around to doing that. They were both so easy to use and felt very secure. Their carriers are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified (see post regarding different certified materials for more information).
Nuna – The Nuna carrier looks like a great option too. They are made with organic cotton and the other fabrics used are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified. I just hadn’t taken a close look at them at the time I was in the market, but would have found them to be on par with BabyBjorn.
Other brands I tried but didn’t really use because of their complexity and my fear of not setting them up right were:
Organic Baby K’tan Baby Carrier
Etsy has a lot of organic ring slings – one I found with lovely fabrics is called Hipsterslings.
I just found that as a new mother I highly valued anything that made things easier – like the ease of using buckles and clasps as opposed to having to figure out the intricacies of how to get your baby in a big piece of cloth that you wrap around your body while holding the baby!
