Find footmuffs free of PFAs and that are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified
I love taking my daughter outside for fresh air and to experience nature, as well as to take naps. All throughout her first winter (except for the coldest of days) we would venture out for a few hours, and she would be all snuggled up in her Engel wool wintersuit and a blanket or two over her. Then came the gamechanger: a footmuff.
She absolutely adores her footmuff. We even use it on days that are in the 60s because we can leave it unzipped, and she can still get that cozy feel – an effective trigger for sleepy time. Footmuffs are wonderful inventions and many can also double as a sleeping bag of camping or for play at home!
Easygrow of Norway – This is the brand that I decided on after much research. I bought the Norse Footmuff, and we absolutely love it. It is Oeko-Tek certified, waterproof and windproof (a Bionic Finish ECO, so no fluorine). It’s very much a winter footmuff, but, as mentioned, we use it on warmer days too. My daughter LOVES to snuggle up in it and often falls asleep in it, even on 60 degree days! (We keep it zipped open so it doesn’t get too hot.) They offer footmuffs for every season – we just preferred to get one of the warmest for the winter. It looks like they now have a footmuff that is approved by the Nordic Swan label, which not only ensures use of no dangerous chemicals but the product also meets ethical and social requirements related to treatment of animals and people.
There are other great footmuff brands that I researched and considered closely:
Voksi – Another high quality and safe Scandinavian brand. They have options for all seasons, and their footmuffs are also certified according to STANDARD 100 by Oeko-Tex Class I. For those footmuffs that offer water proofing, they are coated in the BIONIC-FINISH®ECO.
Kaiser – This a Germany company, which offers a variety of footmuffs and uses sheepskin, organic cotton, and wool to keep kiddos warm. One of their products is mimosa tanned in place of conventional tanning. It can be hard to find a good place to purchase their products from the U.S.
Najell – A Swedish company that also offers eco-friendly, Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1 certified footmuffs that ensures minimal amounts of chemicals.
