We used the BabyBjorn Travel Crib even inside our own home on some nights early on after our daughter’s birth, and I decided on it because it was Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified. In retrospect, I should have gone with the Nuna Sena Aire or the Guava Lotus Travel Crib, both of which are GreenGuard Gold certified.
BabyBjorn Travel Crib – On their website, they state: “All fabrics that come in contact with your child’s skin meet the requirements of OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Class 1 for baby products. This means that they’re kind to your baby’s skin and safe to taste. It also means that there’s no need to wash the crib fabrics before you start using them.” This is good, but it doesn’t account for the fact that there may be VOCs given off from the crib due to other materials used under the outer fabric.
Nuna Sena Aire -This crib comes with an organic cotton sheet and also has the Greenguard Gold certification: “The SENA aire and SENA aire mini have received the renowned GREENGUARD GOLD certification. Products that have achieved GREENGUARD Certification are scientifically proven to meet some of the world’s most rigorous third-party chemical emissions standards, helping to reduce indoor air pollution and the risk of chemical exposure.”
Guava Lotus Travel Crib – I like that they are Greenguard Gold certified and state on their website: “It’s surprising, but some products for little ones, including playards, still contain harsh materials. That didn’t fly with our team, so we had the Lotus tested, and certified, GreenGuard™ Gold. It’s the only travel crib on the market with that certification. What’s NOT in a Lotus Travel Crib:
- No PVC
- No Lead
- No Phthalates
- No Formaldehyde
- No Arsenic
- No Mercury
- No Cadmium
- No Flame Retardants
